Originally joined City as player-manager in 1984, taking the Tigers to promotion from Division Three in his first season in charge.
He 1988 he went on to manage Oxford, Manchester City, Huddersfield, Brighton and Port Vale.
He took over from Colin Murphy as Phil Brown's new assistant manager in May 2007.
