Beehive

A distinctive new shop has appeared on the streets of Hull and its arrival has not gone unnoticed. The Beehive screams individualism and displays an array of statement items…

The Beehive, 216 Newland Avenue, opened Saturday 13th June.

Screaming individualism and displaying a medley of statement garments for both men and women that can't be found anywhere else in the city, it's no wonder this cosy boutique is turning heads.

Soon to be part of the Love Local campaign and with their own website on the way, The Beehive is already making waves throughout the area and building a loyal fan base of fashionistas.

The entire atmosphere of the shop is vibrant and fresh. Wild wallpaper, intimate lighting and knowledgeable, passionate staff capture your attention from the moment you step through the door.

Amongst this Aladdin's Cave of alternative clothing you'll find shoes, bags, belts, jewellery and tattoo apparel. Styles include punk-influenced fashion, checked shirts, designer jeans, printed t-shirts; plus a deluxe array of new and re-worked vintage skirts, tops and dresses; with bright, brash floral and polka dot patterns and luxurious fabrics that ensures these outfits stand out from the crowd.

Before opening the shop, owner Rana Reid was a teacher at Hull College, where she found herself constantly in awe of the students' flare for fashion and overt individualism. Having a creative eye for clothing, she was inspired to escape the world of teaching and open her own boutique in a bid to stand against identikit fashion. She says: "I've always had an interest in alternative and vintage clothing and loved the idea of being my own boss and being able to hand-pick all the garments myself."

The Beehive sells only a limited selection of each item, with many garments being one-offs; meaning your purchase is as individual as you. Most labels aren't available anywhere else in Hull, such as Emily & Fin, Funk Rock, Loungefly and Edward Scissorhands designs. Bigger name brands are also available: Lucky 13, Rubyrocks and Criminal Damage among the top contestants. The stock is forever expanding, so visit the shop regularly to ensure you're first in the queue, ready to cherry-pick from the vast selection of goodies.

Sitting at the back of the shop is Chilly's Tattoo Studio, a newly furnished tattoo parlour with top quality equipment and a fully trained tattoo artist waiting to work his magic. This is the only tattoo studio on Newland Avenue and the only venue in Hull to sell tattoo apparel. The Beehive really is a one-of-a-kind outlet offering a monumental shopping experience – so make sure you pay this shop a visit!
