Get your signed copy of The Unitary Authority of Ersatz by local writer Richard Sutherland
If his debut book is anything to go by, very little passes local writer Richard Sutherland without it capturing his very vivid imagination.
The Unitary Authority of Ersatz is a refreshing collection of short stories and humorous poems which have gained rave reviews from local critics since its release. The book has an eclectic mixture of tales involving polar bears, call centres, food based kings and of course, Facebook.
Sutherland, a former employee of Hull’s Waterstones and student of Wilberforce college, speaking exclusively to Karoo.co.uk explained how Hull is an ideal place to draw inspiration for a book of this calibre.
Sutherland told Karoo, “I’d say that Hull is an excellent place to draw inspiration for creative writing, as everywhere you look there’s some form of miniature escapade going on.”, he continued, “I’ve lived in Hull all of my life, and I’m never short of ideas for new stories that have their origins in a snippet of overheard conversation, or a peculiar event that took place right there on one of the city’s streets. I’d like to think that my fictional city, The Unitary Authority of Ersatz, will be instantly recognisable as a familiar setting for people in Hull, and indeed for any reader anywhere”.
